From nothing more than your imagination, you've created something. That's an accomplishment you should be proud of.
Hour after hour, day after day, you've laid down sentences and paragraphs and pages to create vibrant characters and gripping scenes that you know are going to leave those who consume your story enthralled and emotionally moved.
Your beta readers have adored your work. You've gone through it with a fine-toothed comb. It's ready. You're ready.
Except there are challenges between you and your goal.
Editors are expensive. Cover art is expensive.
Finding the right editor and cover artist is
time-consuming.
Marketing your book by yourself is daunting.
And then there's the matter of
creative control.
You know what the Big Five, corporate publishing route holds for most writers - months and maybe years of querying, hoping to catch the attention of an agent. They tell you that they love your book, but only if you change it from First-Person to Third-Person and chop 20,000 words out of it.
Then your agent puts it out there, "On Sub," with no timetable for being picked up by a publishing house. Your novel is subject to the whims of whatever genre stands to turn the largest profit. For a project you're so passionate about, it seems so... corporate.
Write what you love. Retain control.
