You know what the Big Five, corporate publishing route holds for most writers - months and maybe years of querying, hoping to catch the attention of an agent. They tell you that they love your book, but only if you change it from First-Person to Third-Person and chop 20,000 words out of it. 

Then your agent puts it out there, "On Sub," with no timetable for being picked up by a publishing house. Your novel is subject to the whims of whatever genre stands to turn the largest profit. For a project you're so passionate about, it seems so... corporate.
